FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT DOES IT COST ME TO TALK TO A LAWYER?

We think this is the first question in most people's minds and usually the first one asked. The more important question is what does it cost you if you don't see a lawyer. We are in business to help you and we must charge for our services. There is a small fee for a consultation to answer your questions and we will give you a written projection of what it will cost to handle your case when you come in. Our fees in accident and injury cases are based on the amount of money we can recover for you. If you are hurt in a personal injury case, we will discuss whether we can handle your case and how much our fee will be, without a charge.

ARE THERE OTHER COSTS?

There are other costs and these are not hidden. A bankruptcy petition is filed in federal court and the bankruptcy court charges a filing fee. If your case requires filing a lawsuit, the county charges a fee to file the papers and the sheriff charges a fee to serve them. It is often necessary to have investigators go to the scene of an accident to make a report and take photographs. Doctors and other experts are sometimes necessary. If we take your case we will locate the witnesses and experts who are available to help you. When you stop in to discuss your case, we will explain what these costs may be and how they will be paid.

CAN I DO IT MYSELF?

Yes! The Pennsylvania State Constitution guarantees your right to represent yourself. If you are not a lawyer, this will be an unwise decision. You should consider the people you will have against you and what their interests are. You may have attorneys working against you or a staff of experienced insurance adjusters . It is their job to help their client, NOT YOU. You should always remember that anything you say can and will be used against you. You should talk to your lawyer before you take any important step in life.

When you were small, you were told that silence is golden. It is a good thought to remember throughout life. When you have a legal problem, you should talk to a lawyer first.

WHEN SHOULD I SEE A LAWYER?

The moment you know that you have a problem. There are times limits on most sorts of legal actions. If you are the defendant, you must answer some claims against you in a certain number of days. Some types of accidents require you to give legal notice within a few months. Do not get left out in the cold. If you think you have a problem, seek legal advice.
